The Death of Ataegina | Autumn Equinox | The year in the Iseum begins with honoring Ataegina and the start of her journey to the Underworld, with her death. In this date, we wear brown the the leaves that begin to die to join their Lady, and we have a moment of dedicating art in Her honor - we make Three Ataeginas, anual statuettes to represent the three facets of the Goddess - Maiden, Dead and Queen. They are placed at the altar or in a central spot in the home to aid the Lady on her way. Candles must be lit to light Her path. |
Liminal Night | October 31st | In this night, the veil is thinner, and the fae are more active than ever - and most likely, with bad intentions. We wear purple and veil to protect ourselves. However, in the Iseum, we watch over the Liminal, and it is our mission to comunicate with the Fae and identify them, redirecting them to acompany Ataegina in her descent if they are Almas Penadas. Blackberries are left at the door to distract bad-intentioned fae. We invoke Nabia and her daughter Erbina, Ladies of the Lmits, to take back to the Other World who does not belong here - and we may ask the Queen of the Gods, Lady of Ancestors, to let us see someone who has left us and comunicate with them on this day. |
Goddess' Throne | Winter Solstice | In this day of celebration, Ataegina resists death and transicions to her role of Queen, taking her rightful Throne in the Other World. In this day, we decorate an armchair, chair or pillow especially for the Goddess, and keep it sempre until heat and life come back to our world. We wear red, color of blood and trust. We share a meal with those we love, with the Fae of the Home, and with the Goddesses - preferably, a dish with goat meat or cheese. We pray to the Queen of The Underworld for a kind Winter for us and to those we love. |
Duendes' Dance | Carnaval | This celebration happens in the last three days of February. From the 26th to the 28th (or 27th to 29th in a leap year), trickster spirits like Duendes, Maruxinhos, Trasgos, Fradinhos, Diabretes and Janas are celebrating, and their favourite activity is toying with our mood. We can dress up with costumes that bring us joy. We should play together with them, play bells, dance, join with friends, make jokes - all in good fun and no harm, so we show the Good Folk the limits of fun and aren't victims of bad taste pranks. |
Vision Return | Spring Equinox | We celebrate the ascent of Ataegina and all our transitions in life - we see in the fight Ataegina survived and her spring joy the hope for new beginings. We wear pink, light blue or white, colors full of life and change. We go out and appreciate the weather She brings, and join together for tales of unity, self-discovery, transition and joy. We recognize the symbolism of spring as happiness after fear. Preparing food and drink with the first crops of the season to share, we make devotive art to the Goddesses - both joyous for the return of life. If it rains, the day is blesses, and the water may be collected for cleansing. We make a goat figure to offer the Goddess and welcome her as She arrives. |
Nabialia | April 9th | This is the sacred day of Nabia. In this day, the ancients sacrificed a cow in Her name, beast whose horns resemble the moon. In a way of respecting her, we do not eat the meat, milk or cheese of this being - or make a sacrifice of similar importance if that is already part of our daily life. We make a figure of a cow to offer the Goddess, together with a bird that should be placed at the door for protection. Water from a nearby fountain (creek, river, lake, or sea) is offered and kept at the altar until drying. If the Goddess so seeks, a purifying dive in a local beach, river or lake takes place. We honor Her liminal daughters and communicate with them, hearing their ails and needs. |
May Day | May 1st | Flowers are picked in the early morning, preferably yellow - Broom Flowers - and placed at the entrance of the home forming a carpet. Other flowers decorate the space. We wear yellow and flower crowns. The carpet guides the Goddesses and Fae to bless our space, and we play bells to invoke them. Incense fills our space and we celebrate with wine and music offered to our Liminal Guests. |
Unity Feasts | June | During the entire month we celebrate unity and pride. We celebrate with parties, weather they are cheerful or calm meetings, we appreciate our happiness and existence. We wear red, for the past fights and confidence we need to obtain in a world that does not give it. There is a focus on queer joy and union. It is the right time for rituals of self-discovery and shared experience. It can end with a meeting around the fire, telling tales and remembering the past, that we take with us always - at the same time, cleansing ourselves of it to open space for the future. |
Veiled Mysteries | August 1st | In this day, we cleanse ourselves of everything we bring from the year that passed, and open our mind to the mysteries that the Goddesses and Fae have for us. We join on a beach, light clothing and veils, decorated with shells. We sit among the liminal, between earth and water, and reflect. Bring art to offer, let ourselves stay until sunset. If the condicions allow, we end with a dive in the waves to cleanse and bring one last mystery.
