F.A.Q
Does the Iseum of The Liminal Moon have a physical space?
The I.L.M. at the momment only has this online space and the domestic space of the Sacerdos. The more support we have, the better chances that one day we might have a physical space, which requires much organization and funds. However, rituals can happen in public, outside of the domestic space.
Why the word "Sacerdos" and the neutral language through the website?
(T.N: This might not translate as such in english with the common use of They, but in portuguese the website uses the portuguese neo-pronoun Elu to replace some gendered terms) In our pillars we include the fight for LGBTQ+ rights. The Sacerdos of this spiritual space is a non-binaray lesbian, and the Divine and Liminal are seen through a queer lens. We seek to promote inclusion in paganism, so no more queer, trans, black, brown, or disabled folks are excluded from this religious path. The word "Sacerdos" comes from latin, and can describe both men and women in priestly functions depending on context, being devoid of gender by itself (for english speakers, I do not mind the neutral word "Priestex" but much prefer this latin word). If that is something that bothers you, you should look within yourself and deconstruct why it does before interacting with the space.
What is an Iseum?
Iseum, as the name implies, comes from Isis. It is a "Hearth of the Goddess" created under the wing of Isis from F.O.I. - this name represents not only a specific linneage, but a path a leaning method unique to the group - but to simplify, it's somewhere between a Temple and a Coven. Each Iseum has its own magic and deities, created by Priests/Priestesses/Priestexes that specialize in them, and have their own members registered to F.O.I. An Iseum always has specific functions inspired by its Deities, like divination, healing, study, teacing, and many more. In I.L.M., they are creativity and inclusion.
Do I have to worship Nabia and Ataegina to be guided or initiated by the I.L.M.?
No! You don't even have to worship the iberian pantheon. Even more, you don't even need to worship a pantheon in the more traditional pagan sense - you can be devoted to saints, orixás, goetias or something more general like the Universe. We are flexible with the definition of paganism, and love to know the creative ways folk shape the religions we know to their personal existence. Nabia and Ataegina are patrons of the Iseum and inspire its function, but you don't have to be a devotee. You only have to agree with the Iseum pillars and act according to them.
What does it mean to be a Sacerdos?
Sacerdos have general functions and specific functions. In general functions, we have what we usually expect from religious figures - guiding, teaching, weddings, funerals, etc. They can even initiate other Sacerdos if they so wish. The specific functions are inspired by the Gods you are devoted to. Sacerdos Rosa, for example, has the function to create stories and images of the Gods and promoting inclusion and justice.
Can you train/initiate me?
For now, no. It is far too early for me. I recommend you ask my initiator, Alexia Moon, if you are very anxious to start, but I leave the warning that there is a big waiting period in general.
How does initiation work?
According to F.O.I. and following the pattern of my own initiation, a priesthood training is completely private and takes min. 1 and max 4 years. During it, we work on your connection to the Divine and future priestly functions, with a unique learning method for each Sacerdos, that also includes F.O.I. liturgy and final initiation ritual, all available for reading on their website.
Can you teach me to be pagan?
A religion is not something that is taught, per se. I can guide you in the decisions to take about your path, but no one can decide your faith for you. What you find in this Iseum is from years of self-discovery, research and personal gnosis - and a lot of trial and error. The beauty of paganism is that there isn't a single correct way to do things, and we don't have a great book of rules on how to be a "good pagan". If you like the path you find in the Iseum, try conecting with your faith this way. If it doesn't work, that's ok. There is always a path for you.
What is the Divine Queer?
The Divine Queer is both and extension and critique of the Divine Feminine - which is how it can exist within F.O.I., dedicated to the Sacred Feminine. Just as the queer movement starts allied to the feminist movement, through recognizing queer folks suffer the same oppression from the patriarchy and many of them are also women, such is the Divine Queer. The movement of the Divine Feminine appears, basically, as a way to fight the idea tha placed a masculine energy on top of the concept of Divinity - a way to say "Women are Divine too". The Divine Queer, is, by extension, a way to fight the ideia that the Divine is always heterosexual and cisgender, that there is always a feminine/masculine duality. Although it is allied to the idea of recognizing the Divine in Women, it is, at the same time, critical of it. Sadly, as it happens in many practices, the Divine Feminine is often used as an instrument to limit what a woman can be (just as patriarchal beliefs do) and excluding queer people in the process - like lesbian women and trans women. By saying the Divine is Queer, we recognize the Divine in all, in a way that is intersectional. We worship the Natural. The Divine is Natural, and so is our existence.
Who does the art in the Iseum?
All the art you find in the Iseum is devotional art made by Mora Sininho Rosa. Since there aren't many images of the Iberian Gods and Fae, their priestly work is to create them so they may be shared as inspiration. We are visual people, and having images of the Divine helps conecting to it. All images you find in this space are of free use for personal means and community sharing, but not for commercial purpose - and the Sacerds appreciates mentioning them as the author whenever possible.
